Research Assistant in Evidence Communication (Fixed Term)

Job description

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant to join the team of psychologists, communication experts and software engineers at the Winton Centre for Risk and Evidence Communication. The Research Assistant will help with all aspects of the Winton Centre's work, which spans many disciplines, including the communication of risk and evidence in healthcare, the legal sector, government and journalism. The post-holder will be expected to be able to help prepare and carry out both qualitative work, interviewing a wide range of potential stakeholders, and to be proficient in quantitative methods. The post holder will be expected to be able to help design and produce graphical representations for testing with users, code up questionnaires for online work (eg. using Qualtrics) and to be experienced with basic analysis of data. There may well be the opportunity to contribute to the design of experiments and the writing of scientific papers. However, the main focus of the Centre's work is always to understand the needs of communicators and audiences and hence serve them, rather than to further academic research or publish academic papers. Applicants are expected to have either an excellent undergraduate degree in Psychology, behavioural science, or a closely related discipline, or to be able to demonstrate why their experience makes them an excellent candidate for the job. An ideal candidate would have demonstrable experience of reviewing, conducting, analysing, and interpreting studies involving a variety of (human) participants. This should include working independently to prepare experimental tasks, recruiting for and carrying out heterogeneous participant samples, and using a range of statistical techniques for data analysis. High levels of motivation and organization and the capacity to work flexibly, including at locations across the UK, will be necessary.
