Principal Technical Assistant (barrier) - Animal Facility

Job description          

We are looking for a Principal technical assistant to join our Support team. In addition to salary enhanced pay through overtime, weekend and bank holiday working applies Driven by the Institute’s scientific strategy the closure of the RSF is anticipated to be September 2021 with a run down into 2022 when transfer of employment or redeployment options may be available. As we continue to operate during this transition we are looking for experienced animal technicians to join us taking responsibility for the care and welfare of our animals. Retention payments paid over the period to closure up to a maximum of £12,000 depending on start date What you'll be doing: You will be responsible for supervising a team of highly skilled technical assistants in their daily duties providing support and guidance to maximise efficiency and productivity. On a day-to-day basis you will assist the support team manager providing ancillary backup to the RSF by maintaining clean supplies of equipment and consumables at all times. Movement of the equipment around the facility to ensure consistent workflows are maintained. The biosecurity of the facility is maintained at all times through excellent hygiene standards which must be adhered to and routinely monitored.. There will be occasions where you will be operating machinery and there will be some lifting involved. A significant amount of your day will be spent standing and for this you should be physically fit. Essential Skills Ability to organise/plan and critically review operational flows and processes Understanding how process changes may impact on animal welfare and science Knowledge/understanding of regulatory requirements/compliance e.g. Home Office, Health and Safety Good interpersonal/Supervisory skills Experience of working in a manual/physical environment Knowledge and understanding of housekeeping requirements needed to maintain the integrity of the facility Neat and accurate record keeping Comfortable at communicating at all levels Experience/knowledge of “barriered” facilities Understanding of disinfection and sterilisation principles Good computer literacy Good numeracy/literacy skills Other information The Wellcome Sanger Institute is a world leading genomics research centre.
