This is a highly visible and senior-level hire for a data privacy and technology lawyer. This role will provide strategic leadership and advice to GSK’s consumer health business on all aspects of data privacy issues. In addition, it will involve advising on a range of technology and digital matters. This is a critical hire for a business-orientated candidate who will lead the privacy legal function globally and drive change for the Consumer division, leveraging expertise ideally gained from a consumer-facing business.
This role will partner closely with GSK’s global privacy counsel team and will also work alongside a compliance team who support on privacy matters. Specific responsibilities include of the following:
Develop trust advisor relationship with GSK’s Consumer Health business, tech and compliance teams on global privacy issues.
Lead the strategy for external notices and consents, working with the GSK Privacy Centre of Excellence on roll out/operational implementation.
Review, interpret, and lead implementation of new laws, official guidance and case law to ensure ongoing compliance by GSK's business operations.
Foster a data protection culture within the company and help implement essential elements of privacy law.
Develop and maintain guidance and templates for Consumer Health Business Unit activities.
Provide subject matter expertise and leadership in the following business areas:
Marketing, ad-tech and digital campaigns.
Privacy and data diligence issues associated with mergers and acquisitions / business development.
Complex technology transactions and data transfers.
Website and e-commerce privacy by design / cookie banners / consent tracking.
Develop and implement internal training to business and legal teams on privacy matters.
Primary subject matter legal expertise on consent, notice, consent tracking, privacy tech, privacy by design.
Primary responsibility for third party privacy contracts design, templates and playbook across GSK.
Requirements and Qualifications
This is a broad role requiring significant analytical and problem-solving acumen. A high level of expertise is required to be prepared to advise and drive privacy programmatically for GSK consumer health. We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
Privacy (CIPP/E qualification or equivalent preferred)
Marketing and data analytics
Complex multi-jurisdictional technology contracting and privacy experience gained from a multinational environment
Excellent technical and drafting skills
A track record in leading and advising on a range of technology transactions
Experience in a consumer-facing business, ideally with change management experience
Track record in developing and implementing a global privacy strategy
Comfortable with advising senior stakeholders and building cross-functional relationships
Ability to provide creative and commercial solutions to new and challenging issues in a constantly changing environment
Level of Experience Required:
This person needs to be a privacy subject matter expert with significant experience of advising at board level or equivalent
Candidates are likely to have at least 10 years of post-qualification experience for guideline purposes only
Previous leadership and/or management experience is desirable as this is a highly visible and impactful role
