Currently, we have an opportunity for an experienced and commercially-minded magazine editor to lead the curation of a bespoke travel magazine for a world-leading brand within the travel and hospitalty industry. This is a rare opportunity to relaunch the magazine as a modern travel/lifestyle title, that puts the leading client at the core of it's content.
As Editor, you will be an ideas-driven content creator with indepth knowledge of current affairs from local business innovations to travel stories beyond the cliché. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in magazine publishing and an interest in creating solutions for where editorial and commercial meet. As Editor, you will also be responsible for both the print magazine as well a creating content across monthly newsletters and the brand’s other social and digital platforms. You will be part of a dynamic team that works closely together across all platforms and as such may be required to contribute to other areas of the brand. Accountabilities How you will contribute Defining the magazine’s identity to be on-brand for the travel demographic Taking full ownership of the title, from inception through to print; creating captivating story lists; commissioning and writing copy and managing the production workflow Collaborating with the art director to produce a creatively striking print product that stands out in the market place Producing the magazine on time and within budget to the full satisfaction of the client Managing freelancers from subeditors to writers, applying an expertly editorial polish to ensure a consistent tone of voice To create and deliver the overall content plan, across all platforms, liaising closely with the client to ensure all objectives are exceeded Develop a joined up strategy for Web, Print and Social Media platforms of the brand. Commission and oversee Contributors, Designers, Photographers and Videographers, with content and budget responsibility Oversee newsletter content curation and dispatch strategy Ensure the brand's editorial standards are met, all relevant copyrights have been cleared, content is optimised for SEO and content meets local and legal guidelines Work with the team to manage social media, ensuring regular posts, which may include sponsored or offer based content Work with the client and the team to create an editorial content calendar. Keep it current, identifying commercial and audience opportunities within it and communicating them to other members of the team Work as an integrated member of a talented editorial team. Upskill them digitally where possible Contribute to other brand extensions as needed and required by your manager Experience, skills and professional attributes The desirable skills for this role include: Strong editorial experience and a proven background as an Editor within a travel or lifestyle print title is preferred A can-do approach, well-organised, creative and calm under pressure with an eye for a good story Experience in travel writing and ability to commission to a tight brief and small budget Existing contacts with established journalists Ability to work in and contribute to a dynamic team-based environment A collaborative approach is essential Experience undertaking reviews and attending events outside of office hours Act as an effective brand ambassador for and an evangelist for the brand in the market Have your finger on the pulse of the travel market; use your professional contacts and social-media networks to be the first to identify the next big thing
