Specialist Dietitian

Are you a dietitian with experience of working in the fascinating area of gastroenterology? Do you have excellent leadership and communication skills? Would you enjoy the opportunity to be at the forefront of nutritional service development for gastroenterology, with dedicated time to improve the health and quality of life for people living with the consequences of pelvic cancer treatments?

The Trust is the main provider of hospital care to approximately 750,000 people in Manchester and Trafford and the single biggest provider of specialised services in the North West of England.

The role would be based in the supportive and well-respected dietetic department at Wythenshawe Hospital, which sits within a family of nine hospitals across six separate sites, providing a wide range of services from comprehensive local general hospital care through to highly specialised regional and national services.

The successful candidate would work closely with the lead gastroenterology consultant, Dr Caroline Henson, in both delivering and developing the service for the pelvic radiation patient group. They would be an advocate for the importance of specialist dietetic care as an essential part of any service for people with GI consequences of pelvic radiotherapy (National Cancer Survivorship Initiative Living with and Beyond Cancer document). With the possibility of an extending their role including dietetic led follow up, limited non-medical prescribing and investigation requests.

This challenging and immensely satisfying post requires an innovative and well organised individual, to provide a high quality inpatient and outpatient nutritional care for patients often with multiple and complex gastrointestinal symptoms. The post would include responsibility for the provision of dietetic services to gastroenterology and the provision of leadership to a small team of band 6 and band 5 dietitians.

As a hospital recognised regionally and nationally for the quality of teaching and research, an enthusiasm to implement training of dietitians, students, medical and nursing staff is paramount. Your own knowledge and skill progression is also extremely valued and the department actively encourages CPD activities and personal development.
