We are currently recruiting a Glass Fibre Reinforced Plastic (GRP) Supervisor to work at RAF Syerston, a satellite airfield of RAF College Cranwell and home to the RAF Central Gliding School.
You will carry out the role of Supervisor in the Glass Fibre Reinforced Plastic (GRP) Bay environment in order to deliver aircraft and engineering support to meet the contract requirements. Y ou will carry out the responsibilities and duties of Certifying Staff in accordance with Military Aviation Authority Regulatory Publication Regulatory Article 4801 and Part 145.
You will lead and manage a team carrying out maintenance, GRP repairs and Surface Finish (SF) activities on Viking, Vigilant and other contract-related aircraft at RAF Syerston and other locations throughout the UK. You will carry out associated roles and duties as directed by the business needs.
You will be based at RAF Syerston but may be required to satisfy the regular UK-wide mobile requirements of the role.
Carry out the responsibilities and duties of Support Staff with supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Serco GMS Military Regulation Publication (MRP) Part 145 Maintenance Organisation Exposition (MOE), Military Aviation Authority (MAA) MRP Part 145 and Regulatory Article (RA) 4801.
Maintenance, (Preventative, Corrective and Scheduled) and associated activities (i.e. Manpower, Tasks and Spares prioritisation) on Viking, Vigilant and other contract-related aircraft at RAF Syerston and 2 Flying Training School (FTS) locations/Volunteer Gliding Squadrons (VGSs)/detachments throughout the UK.
Management, supervision, participation in and control of aircraft activities including but not limited to; ground movement and preparation for transportation.
Leadership, management, supervision and control of GRP and Surface finish Team.
Optimising output to meet the business needs and demonstrate commitment to Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement.
Carry out associated roles as directed by the business needs, such as but not limited to; Building Custodian.
Assist GRP Senior Supervisor with providing SME advice for liaison with external agencies.
Carry out associated duties as directed by the business needs, such as but not limited to; audits, completion of Aviation Safety procedures (In-Forms, DASORs etc), Narrative Fault Reporting (MOD Form 760 series), Unsatisfactory Feature Report for Military Air Environment Technical Information (MOD Form 765), Technical Queries, aircraft F700 Quality Checks and Quality procedures.
Achieving and maintaining authorisations and currency.
Remain current with all amendments to company standard operating procedures and all other relevant technical data provided.
Comply with all relevant Health, Safety and Environment regulations and exercise a Duty of Care promoting a positive approach towards workplace health and safety.
As directed by Serco management, any reasonable additional tasks that are required to support contract requirements.
Be a Qualified Aircraft Airframe and/or Propulsion Mechanic/Technician – (City and Guilds Aeronautical Engineering Parts 1 and 2 or NVQ equivalent or higher qualification or a British Glider Association Inspector or a Licensed Aircraft Engineer).Hold an appropriate category A, B1, B2 or C licence in compliance with European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Annex III (Part 66); or
Be appropriately experienced and have completed suitable civilian training (civilian contractors only).
Demonstrate having held authority or potential to sign for duplicate inspections (Civilian) or independent Inspection (Military).
Essential Skills and Experience:
Have a minimum of 5-years experience in equivalent civilian industry or Armed Forces in a relevant trade group.
Meet all H&S requirements for the correct use of PPE (i.e appropriate preparation of the skin to allow the correcxt fit of the tight fitting respirator during spray activities)
Hold full driving licence (maximum 6 points)
Possess good communication skills both written and verbal.
Be competent using IT.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
Possess composite repair experience (Tri-Service course STC2043 delivered at RAF Wittering by 71(Inspection & Repair) Sqn; or Tri-Service course TEM028, delivered at HMS Sultan or is able to display civilian equivalent qualifications.
Have been previously employed within an EASA/Mil Part 145 organisation.
Have working knowledge of military or civilian aircraft maintenance documentation and publications.
Have experience in Surface Finish activities with high volume low pressure sray guns.
Be physically able to meet manual handling requirements of aircraft rigging and de-rigging tasks and general aircraft maintenance.
Be medically fit to work in an aircraft engineering environment.
This post will be located at RAF Syerston, but the individual must be prepared to travel away from RAF Syerston for several overnight periods on a regular basis.
